Lost and Impounded Animals

Dogs

If you have lost your dog, please see our list of impounded dogs below. The list contains details of dogs that have been impounded by the City of Marion Community Safety Inspectors, Police or members of the public.

The list of impounded dogs is provided in accordance with Section 43(1)1 of the Dog and Cat Management Act 1995.

If your dog does not match any on the list, please contact RSPCA Lonsdale, RSPCA Headquarters, your local vet and as a last resort please contact the City of Marion on 8375 6600 or the Department of Transport, Energy and Infrastructure on 1800 018 313 to find out if a deceased dog has been collected.

Registration and collection of Impounded dogs

Impounded dogs may be collected from the RSPCA at 25 Meyer Road, Lonsdale SA 5160
10am-4pm Monday, Wednesday - Friday (closed Tuesday)
10am-2pm Saturday and Sunday - 1300 477 722 (during opening hours)

To reclaim your dog you will need:

  • proof of ownership
  • identification ie drivers licence
  • to pay impound and microchipping fees (if your dog was microchipped)
  • if your dog is not registered, register your dog - All dogs should be registered prior to release from the impound at the RSPCA.

Microchipping Impounded Dogs

Impounded dogs may be microchipped by law. A non-microchipped dog will be microchipped by the RSPCA when it is impounded. A fee of $22.00 is applicable and needs to be paid when you reclaim your dog.

Dog owners are encouraged to refer to Chipblitz for discounted microchipping. Bookable dates are available on the Chipblitz website.

Cats

The City of Marion does not impound wandering cats. This is the responsibility of the RSPCA.

If you have lost your cat, please see our list of impounded cats below. This list contains details of cats that are taken to the RSPCA Headquarters in Adelaide by members of the public, and cannot be identified by tag or microchip.
