Natural Landscaping Upgrade

Council is working to improve the appearance of unirrigated areas of its reserves so they can be enjoyed by the community. This is part of an ongoing plan to create places for people to play while saving our most precious
resource – water.

At Mitchell Street Reserve you will see:

  • The border of the reserve enhanced through landscaping
  • More than 2,000 native seedlings planted
  • Mulch added around trees

Community information for this work is underway. Refer to the Community Information flyer below for further details including FAQs.

About the Reserve

The reserve is large enough to kick a football or play a lawn game. There's a bench seat with glimpses of the sea and and a tap nearby to refill your water bottle.

Magpies warble and the wind rustles the leaves. Take a moment to look up at the beautiful branches of the various gum trees.

The large established trees provide gum nuts and bark for nature inspired creativity.

Playground removal

The playground equipment at Mitchell Street Reserve was removed at the end of June 2018 as it had reached the end of its life expectancy.

Further information about the removal

As part of the Playground Framework, Council has reviewed the provision of playgrounds to ensure an equitable and sustainable provision of innovative, safe and high quality playgrounds.

Consultation regarding the removal was open from 3 April 2018 to 26 April 2018. The feedback was presented to General Council on 22 May 2018 and the removal was endorsed.
