A female student at Tonsley’s TAFE SA campus is making her mark in the male-dominated world of painting and decorating.
Hayley Gladdis, 21, won gold in the painting and decorating category of the South Australian WorldSkills competition in November last year and is now preparing to compete in the nationals in Melbourne in October.
WorldSkills Australia promotes the importance of vocational education and training.
Hayley, who is from Blackwood, is the only female in the final year of her class at TAFE SA, and at C & J Painting in Macclesfield where she works as an apprentice.
Hayley said: “The facilities and training at TAFE SA have given me an edge over other apprentices, learning both basic and specialist techniques and tips of the trade that have furthered my career.”
In 2014 and 2015 Hayley won the apprentice category in the South Australian Dulux Accredited Painter of the Year awards.
