Youth Grants Program - Youth Achievement

The Youth Achievement Grants aims to encourage and support young people who have achieved outstanding results in their chosen field.

Grants are available for young people who are residents of the City of Marion and have been chosen by a peak body to represent South Australia or Australia in the following categories:

  • Sport and Recreation.
  • Education and Academic Performance.
  • Maths and Science.
  • Community Involvement.
  • Arts and Culture.


Application process

Key dates

  • Applications now open until 30 June 2018.

The application is completed online: Smarty Grants website - Youth Achievement.

You are guaranteed confidentiality and security when lodging a grant application online. If you do not have access to the internet, please contact the Youth Development Team to discuss alternatives.

Only one application per person per financial year.

Grants available

Grants will be accepted throughout the year, subject to available funds:

  • $100 if representing South Australia.
  • $200 if representing Australia. 



Eligibility criteria is as follows:

  • Aged 24 years or under at the time of the event.
  • Be a resident of the City of Marion.
  • Be competing in a peak body organised event. If your field does not have a peak body, and you have been selected for state/national representation, please submit an application and contact the Youth Development Team to discuss your eligibility.
  • Represent South Australia or Australia. 



The following reasons will render an application ineligible:

  • Event / activity has already taken place.
  • Retrospective costs (any money spent before a grant is approved).
  • Applications from team officials, coaches and organisers.
  • Applications for competitions that have not been designated by the peak body.
  • If the competition/event involves a club competing against other interstate/ international clubs, but not as part of a formal state/national competition organised by your peak body, you will not be eligible to apply for a grant.


Grant assessment

The City of Marion reserves the right to provide funding at its sole discretion, however in order to arrive at this decision the following process will be undertaken:

  • Applications will be assessed against eligibility.
  • Applications will be assessed in accordance with grant schedule and available funds.
  • Applicants may be requested to provide additional supporting information considered appropriate. 


Terms and conditions

Grants will be provided to successful applicants under the following terms and conditions:

  • Applications must be received by no later than midnight 30 June 2018.
  • In the event of a cancellation of the competition or an inability to attend, any grant received must be returned to Council.
  • Only one application per person per financial year.
  • Approval is subject to annual budgetary limitations.
  • Applications must be received through the Youth Achievement Grants Smarty Grants page.
  • Applications must include a letter of verification from the appropriate peak body confirming the status of the application as a competing member of a State or National team.
  • Applicants will be notified in writing within four weeks of submitting an application.
  • Successful applications will receive the grant in the form of a cheque in the name that appears on the application unless otherwise stated on the application form.
