Oaklands Recreation Plaza

Oaklands Recreation Plaza (Skate Park) was officially opened in October 2015 and is located next to the Oaklands Wetlands.

The plaza was funded by $900,000 in grants from State Government and $100,000 from the City of Marion.

The Oaklands Recreation Plaza features a specially designed park for skateboarding, BMX and scooters, a mini basketball court and parkour obstacle course, along with grassed areas, seating and an automated toilet.

There will also be additional car parking and lighting, trees, irrigated turf and plants.

On 28 February 2017, Council endorsed draft design concepts for Oaklands Recreation Plaza Stage 2, that will include replacing the old Roundhouse with a new rotunda, line marking for trike and bike riders, skate mounds, new table tennis and picnic tables, benches and picnic shelter.

Oaklands Estate Reserve

The 6-hectare reserve forms part of a larger 12-hectare site which is bound by Oaklands Road to the north, Oaklands Estate to the east, the Adelaide to Noarlunga rail line to the south, and the Sturt River to the west.

The Oaklands Reserve is undergoing a unique planning phase to create an integrated reserve design which will incorporate additional recreation facilities, play opportunities, pathway connections, picnic facilities and landscaping across the site.

The Oaklands Reserve development (south of the site) will include consideration of existing site features including the biodiversity corridor, vineyard, Japanese garden, significant trees and play opportunities.

On 25 July 2017, Council endorsed proceeding to detailed design, development approvals, procurement and construction phases of work. These works will be undertaken between August 2017 and June 2018.

Construction is due to commence in July 2018 and will be finished by the end of 2018.
