Wide load Permits

In order to use City of Marion Council roads with a wide load, a written application seeking permission must be made to Council so that a Over Dimensional Clearance can be issued.

What is a Wide Load?
A Wide Load is considered to be a load or vehicles that exceeds the following dimensions:
  • 18.25 metres in length.
  • 2.4 metres wide.
  • 4.5 metres in height (from the road surface).
Who controls the roads?

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure may authorise the use of the roads that they control, subject to Council granting clearance to use any Council roads on the proposed route.

  • Lonsdale Road
  • Main South Road
  • Majors Road
  • Marion Road
  • Morphett Road (north of Seacombe Road)

  • South Road
  • Southern Expressway
  • Sturt Road

Applications for clearance

Applications should be forwarded to Council at least two weeks prior to the travel date, to allow enough time for investigations. Send your written application to:

What to include in the application

The request must specify:

  • The dimensions of the vehicle.
  • The nature of the load.
  • The exact route to be used.
  • The times and date/s.

Council will confirm its decision in writing. There is no charge for a permit.
