Marion's outdoor pool?

You want our
Marion Swimming Centre

The South Australian Aquatic and Leisure Centre (SAALC) is located in the City of Marion and provides all-year round aquatic facilities for the community, athletes and major events.

The South Australian Government in association with the City of Marion and the Australian Government built the swimming centre which opened in 2011.

The SAALC is managed by the YMCA and aims to develop a stronger sports sector and encourage greater participation in sport by the Marion and regional community.

Next to the SAALC on the Marion Domain site, the Department of Health has delivered the GP Plus Health Care Centre including the Inner Southern Community Mental Health facility.

Background of development of SAALC and GP Plus Health Care Centre

The SAALC resulted from an investigation in 1999 into the needs for aquatic recreation facilities in the inner southern suburbs and the lack of any swimming pool in SA which meets the FINA international competition standards. (FINA stands for Federation Internationale de Natation and is the governing body of international aquatic sports competitions.)

The SAALC was funded by the three levels of Government; Federal, state and local.

See the YMCA media release or the South Australian Government media release for more information about the YMCA's management of the centre.
