Mayor's Message

Welcome to the Mayor's Message column, which aims to keep you up-to-date with what is happening in the City of Marion.

The Mayor, Kris Hanna, is busy visiting the many community groups in our area, and meeting the people who make our city such a wonderful place in which to live.

This column allows Mayor Hanna to share these experiences and provide you with important information on a regular basis.

Mayor’s Message – October 2017

Community consultation is well underway on the biggest proposed changes to planning in our city’s history.

We genuinely want to hear your views.

The draft Housing Diversity Plan Amendment will influence how our suburbs will look and feel by setting the rules around what can be built and where.

We have already received a large number of messages from people sharing their thoughts about the draft DPA.

I have asked Council staff to track all submissions (approval, discontent or inquiries) on a suburb-by-suburb basis.

Elected Members will not hesitate to change the DPA as a result of what we hear.

Information sessions will be held over the next month to explain the DPA. Session times are on this website on the Housing Diversity Plan Amendment page.

Meanwhile, Australia Day celebrations in Marion will not be changing.

A motion from an individual Councillor to change the date of our Australia Day activities did not get any support and lapsed.

The debate over Australia Day is a federal political issue and has no place in local government.
