More than 400 people attended the funeral of former City of Marion councillor Joahann Wolfgang Bierbaum who died in July after a short illness aged 69.
Mr Bierbaum served as an alderman of the City of Marion from 1995 to 1997 and as a councillor from 1991 to 1995 and 1997 to 2000.
Known to many as ‘Wolfi’, Mr Bierbaum was a long-time resident of Hallett Cove where he lived with his wife of 48 years.
Jane Bierbaum said her husband was passionate about his local community.
“Wolfi loved his family, community and work and had a social conscience,” Ms Bierbaum said.
“He worked to improve the area by helping found the Hallett Cove Progress Association almost 40 years ago. He was very proud of our five children, six grandchildren and two step grandchildren.”
Mr Bierbaum started his career as a teacher before going on to work as an engineer at Port Stanvac and Birkenhead.
Mr Bierbaum’s funeral was held at Centennial Park on July 10.
