I would firstly like to thank my fellow elected members for giving me the privilege to serve as your Deputy Mayor over the past year and the members of the community who welcomed me into the position along the way. It was a challenging time with management changes and divisive decisions; nonetheless I enjoyed the task of working through them.  As a Council we decided to share the privilege each year, hence my term as deputy has come to an end, which will give me more time to engage more intently with Warriparinga Ward.

Over the past year, Council’s planning staff have received two applications for mobile telecommunication’s towers; one in Morphettville and another in Glandore. Whilst they are an element of our modern world, I think far more can be done in terms of integrated design.

All applications in recent times have been for mono-poles which allow companies to rapidly build, expand on later and access them quickly to do so; in other words cheap and easy for their owners. Regardless of the benefits to these telecommunication providers they are nothing but an eyesore on our skyline.

I believe we need stronger laws to force the hand of integrated design; whether they be located on electricity posts, designed into sculptures on buildings and the like. Our community expects better than what they are currently serving up and residential amenity must be the primary consideration throughout.

Wishing you all a very happy and safe festive season!

Warm Regards  - Luke.
