Name the new Connector Road at Hallett Cove

Nearly 100 submissions were received with over 130 name suggestions for a name of the new road.

Council has formed a sub-committee to short list the names and Council will decide which name will make it. We'll keep you posted.

Thank you very much for your interest and great enthusiasm.

The City of Marion started construction of the new road with its contractor Built Environs, November 2007. Excavation and refill works for the western part of the connector road between Lonsdale and Gledsdale Road is completed as is the asphalting of this section.

Works on the Gledsdale/Zwerner/Quailo intersection are completed with all traffic lights installed, Gledsdale Road widened and Quailo Ave aligned with the new road.

Construction is now focussing on Lonsdale Road and the eastern side of the connector road between Lonsdale and Berrima Road.

Built Environs’ Connector Consultation phone no is 0418 941 240.

BACKGROUND

The development of the new Connector Road is a key component of the Marion South Plan as it will provide enhanced access to retail, civic and educational facilities and improve public transport as well as pedestrian and cycle access. Also, the road is integral to the proposed redevelopment of the Hallett Cove Shopping Centre and adjacent housing development by the private sector.

The $12.9 million project includes $4.45m from the Commonwealth Government’s Road to Recovery 2 program, $3.5m (plus land) from the State Government, $1.45m from the private sector (Makris Group and Oakford Homes) and $3.5m of council funds.

The tender process for the construction of the Connector Road is the culmination of the collective efforts of the City of Marion, Federal and State Governments and the private sector to secure the project. Built Environs was the preferred tenderer for Council after a competetive tender process.
