________________________________________________________________________________________
The City of Marion wants to make better use of the Surf Life Saving building at Hallett Cove beach. A café has been installed in the building and an interpretive centre is proposed.
The Surf Life Saving building is located on the beautiful Marion Coastal Walk from Marino to Hallett Cove.
LATEST NEWS
The operator for the café 'Surfers' has started operations at the premises in December 2007.
The renovation of the public toilets at the Surf Life Saving building have also been completed and the facilities are open to the community.
TIMELINES
The opening of the café 'Surfers' marks the project's completion. The café is operational since December 2007 and the public toilets since November 2007.
BACKGROUND
The Surf Life Saving building provides an attractive location for an interpretative centre and café due to its proximity to the beach and the Hallett Cove Conservation Park. The building will be refurbished in stages, with the opening of the cafe forming stage 1.
An Expression of Interest process concluded in 2006 and since that time the successful lessee has been finalising development approval for the refurbishment of the site. At its Council meeting on 25 September 2007 Council approved the lease agreement with the operator of the café.
