A place for the arts and local culture
Marion's ongoing commitment to culture and the arts has resulted in the development of the Marion Cultural Centre, which opened in November 2001. Located on Diagonal Road, just north of Westfield Marion, the Centre houses a spacious modern gallery, Gallery M, an intimate theatre/multi-purpose space, the Domain Theatre, library, cafe and a plaza area suitable for outdoor events.

This architecturally adventurous building reflects the guiding vision of a Cultural Centre that would celebrate, support and inspire local arts and culture. The inclusion of artists in the project team was integral to the building's development and resulted in a number of arts project including:
The I-con sculpture
Prominent at the front of the building is a public art work entitled ‘From the Horizon - Towards the Land', known popularly as 'the I-con'. The work is an 8 metre high dual steel column which relates to both the Australian landscape and to the immediate surrounding environment. It also represents the 'I' in the word MARION, which is a key structural component of the Centre.
Designed by internationally acclaimed local sculptor Greg Johns, it creates an eye-catching focal element at the front of the building.
The Warracowie Wells
The Cultural Centre is sited on a slight hill where the old homestead of Warracowie used to stand.
Warracowie Wells is an art work by Martin Corbin which uses salvaged materials from the old building to acknowledge earlier histories of the site, including the Kaurna heritage of the area.
