The State Aquatic Centre will provide all-year round aquatic facilities for the community, athletes and major events. It aims to develop a stronger sports sector and encourage greater participation in sport by the Marion and regional community.
LATEST NEWS
The City of Marion and the State Government together with Aqua43 are working collaboratively to prepare a more detailed design for the concept proposal for the Marion Domain site which was presented for consideration to the Marion Council and State Cabinet in October/November 2007.
The Aqua43 consortium comprises of Candetti Constructions and Macquarie Bank.

BACKGROUND
The State Aquatic Centre resulted from an investigation in 1999 into the needs for aquatic recreation facilities in the inner southern suburbs and the lack of any swimming pool in SA which meets the FINA international competition standards. (FINA stands for Federation Internationale de Natation and is the governing body of international aquatic sports competitions.)
The State Aquatic Centre is funded by three levels of Government with a balance of funds to be provided by the private sector. The development of the GP Plus Health Care Centre is integral part of the development on the Marion Domain.
An Expression of Interest was called for the FINA and GP Plus Health Care Centre components of the development during December 2006. From March to May 2007 a Request for Proposal was called for the three short listed consortia.
At its Special Council meeting on 30 October 2007 Council considered the concept proposal presented by Aqua43. The State Government considered the concept proposal in November 2007.
