The Council is in the recently formed Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management Board area and is required under the Natural Resource Management Act 2004 to fund the operations of the Board. It does so by imposing a separate rate for all properties within the council.

The role of the Board is to manage, protect and restore the region’s natural resources. The Board has been formed from the former local Catchment Water Management Board, the Soil Conservation Board and the Animal & Plant Control Boards. Under the one umbrella the NRM Board has the the aim of achieving a more integrated approach to the management of our soil, water, coastal and biodiversity assets.

The Council is operating as a revenue collector for the Natural Resources Management Board in this regard. It does not retain this revenue or determine how the revenue is spent.
