Following extensive consultation with key stakeholders, the City of Marion has developed an Economic Development Strategy . Four principal directions are fundamental to the strategy and will guide the city's economic development activities into the future:

- A strong, adaptable and diversified economy
- Leading in environmental best practice
- Active business networks, alliances and a culture of collaboration.
