The Cement Hill site is located on two water courses and is adjacent to the Linwood Quarry. It is currently contaminated by former industrial activities and a rubbish dump.
Prior to redevelopment of the Cement Hill site rehabilitation needs to take place as well as the zoning of the area needs to be considered. The access road to the quarry in its present layout confines the development of the site.
Key objectives
To encourage the redevelopment of the unsightly and contaminated industrial land at the entrance / gateway to Marino.
To facilitate safer quarry vehicle access and a better arrangement between quarry traffic and residences.
Approach
The City of Marion’s original proposal is to relocate the existing quarry access road and to rezone Lorenzin land for residential development.
Community consultation will be undertaken in accordance with the Development Act (1993) requirements for rezoning process.
The proposed method(s) for improving Cement Hill will be developed by Council and land owners.
