Concessions

Concessions on Council Rates are controlled by the State Government and granted by applying to either SA Water, Families SA or Revenue SA, depending on the type of concession sought.

Please Note: Rate payments must not be withheld pending the granting of a concession.



Pensioners
Seniors Concessions
Self Funded Retirees
Centrelink Beneficiaries
Low Income Earners

Pension Concessions

    You may be eligible for a concession of up to 60% on your rates to a maximum of $190.00 from the State Government through SA Water, for your principal place of residence if :
    • You have a Pensioner Concession Card or a State Concession Card, or are a TPI pensioner, EDA pensioner, War Widow Pensioner, or have received a Confirmation of Concession Card Entitlement, AND
    • Your eligibility was granted prior to the due date of the first instalment payment of rates for the financial year. This is usually the first working day in September AND
    • You are the owner or part-owner of the property in which you live, AND
    • You are responsible for paying the rates on that property.

    If you are a pensioner and do not own the property in which you live, but are responsible for paying rates on that property you should seek advice from SA Water.

    To claim the concession you should complete the application form, which is available from Council Offices or SA Water, and present your concession card for certification.

    Seniors Card Holders/Self Funded Retirees

    To qualify for a Self-Funded Retiree concession to a maximum of $100.00 on Council Rates on your principal place of residence you must:
    • be the holder of a State Seniors Card
    • your spouse/partner (if applicable) must be in less than 20 hours paid employment per week.
    • be the owner, part owner or the registered ratepayer of the property for which you are applying.

    Application forms for a Seniors Card are available through all Post Offices, Families SA,
    Office of the Ageing and Revenue SA.

    Centrelink Beneficiaries/Low Income Earners

    To be eligible you must:
    • be the owner of the property in which you live AND
    • be a Centrelink Beneficiary (including Austudy/Abstudy) or a Low Income Earner.

    You must present your ORIGINAL First Quarter Rate Notice together with your Centrelink documentation at the Families SA office when applying and
    • Complete the application form
    • Produce your Centrelink Income Statement, showing payment of income on or between the issue date, and up to 14 days after the due date for the account.

    All low income applicants (including partners) are required to produce:
    • their Taxation Assessment Notices and/or Non-lodgement Advice Notices for the period of accounts submitted, or
    • their consecutive payslips covering a four- week period, prior to the due date of the accounts submitted.

    You should lodge your application as soon as you receive your Rate Notice.

    Families SA receive many thousands of applications and may take several weeks to process them, you are the ratepayer and you remain responsible for the first and all instalments due to be paid.
