Cove Sports Netball and Lower Oval

The Cove Sports Netball and Lower Oval redevelopment and has received $2.5 million worth of State Government Funding.

At the City of Marion, we believe that our community should have access to a broad range of community facilities so that everyone has the opportunity to lead an active, healthy lifestyle.

The Cove Sports and Community Club is currently home to five sporting clubs comprising of football (Australian Rules), cricket, soccer, netball, and BMX. More than 1600 members share the facility.

Significant investments have been made in BMX and soccer that will transfer them from the site to new world-class facilities on Majors Road, O’Halloran Hill at the Sam Willoughby International BMX Facility, and the Southern Soccer Facility.

Between 11 August and 25 September 2020 Marion Council consulted with the community to re-shape the Cove Sports and Community Club at Oval Road, Hallett Cove.

During the General Council meeting on 27 January 2021, Council noted the outcome of the community consultation for the reshaping of the Cove Sports and Community Club and resolved to undertake a detailed feasibility analysis and business case.

Consideration of your feedback resulted in Council endorsing scope comprising of 2 components.

Cove Sports Netball and Lower Oval – is proposed to be a new netball facility and reconfiguration of the BMX/Soccer areas of the site to create a multi-sport field and additional car parking. The redevelopment scope consists of:

  • New netball club building with two new netball courts, shelters, and lighting
  • New multi-purpose field that accommodates cricket, soccer, football, and rugby
  • Associated external works and landscaping
  • New car parking accommodating 188 car parks
  • The netball club building accommodates:
    • Canteen with external access
    • Multipurpose room
    • Storage areas
    • Two change rooms with changing cubicles
    • Male, female, and accessible toilet facilities
    • Removal of BMX track

Cove Sports Clubrooms and Upper Oval - is proposed to be a new Cove sports clubroom, realignment of the existing oval, play spaces and landscaping.

It should be noted that this project is currently unfunded however the City of Marion will have community consultation on Cove Sports Clubrooms and Upper Oval in due course.

Project Status

  • Between the 11 of August and 25 of September 2020 Council undertook community consultation to assist in defining the requirements of the redevelopment.
  • A feasibility study and business case for the project was completed in April 2021, on 17 of May 2022 Council resolved to deliver the Cove Sports Netball and Lower Oval component of the project in isolation from the Cove Spots Clubrooms and Upper Oval undertaking.
  • In September 2021 Council provided endorsement to proceed with design development for a two-staged rollout of the project. The design development phase of the project was completed from November 2021 to February 2022.
  • An Expression of Interest (EOI) was released to the open market via SA Tenders in December 2022 for shortlisting of contractors.
  • In April 2023 Council will proceed with a Tender to the shortlisted contractors.
  • In July 2023, Blu-Built were selected as the successful contractor.
  • Building works / mobilisation on site will commence in August 2023 with an expected completion of Cove Sports Netball and Lower Oval project in mid-2024.
