Stage 4 of the City of Marion’s central streetscape project – delivering a greener and more walkable Morphett Road – is now finished.

The $1.8 million upgrade of Morphett Road was funded by Council with a $500,000 contribution from the Australian Government through Round 3 of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

Mayor of Marion Kris Hanna said Morphett Road was the third and final side of the triangle of streetscape upgrades of major roads around the Marion Shopping Centre.

Previous stages improved the streetscapes along Diagonal Road and Sturt Road, starting with Stage 1 which upgraded Sturt Road from the main intersection with Diagonal Road up to Warriparinga.

“With Morphett Road now complete we have given the Marion’s largest retail precinct better footpaths and paving, improving the look and feel of the place,” Mr Hanna said.

“We also provided more seating, more street trees and other greenery.”

As part of the work, the City of Marion has also installed water-saving technologies.

Features of the water-sensitive urban design include the selection of plants and trees suited to local conditions, the installation of TREENET inlets that harvest and store stormwater for street trees and kerb and rock mulch drains.

“I am proud that the Federal Government's contribution of $500,000 through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program has helped Stage 4 of the City of Marion’s central streetscape project come to fruition.” Federal Member for Boothby Louise Miller-Frost said.

“Through the installation of water-saving technologies and the use of water-sensitive urban design, this project not only prioritises the environment but also enhances the community experience.

“This investment, combined with the City of Marion’s commitment, will see a transformed streetscape that promotes walkability, sustainability, and a real sense of pride in our local area.”
