Marion Council will have a new kerbside waste collection service from 1 May – but there will be no changes to when bins are collected.

In a new era for kerbside collection, a contract has been awarded to Cleanaway to collect waste, recycling and organic bins from 168,000 households across Adelaide.

The only difference for Marion Council residents will be new phone and email contact details to report a missed bin or to order a new bin.

Among the benefits:

  • New environmentally - friendly garbage trucks with enhanced technology (including the trialling of electric trucks) will deliver the services.
  • Increased waste and recycling education to residents in a bid to reduce contamination levels, and the volume of waste going to landfill.
  • Introduction of an online portal for residents to request services along with new contact details to report a missed bin collection and for other queries.
  • Better tracking of garbage trucks to minimise the chance of not collecting bins.

Other Councils involved include Charles Sturt, Adelaide and Port Adelaide Enfield.

Contracts have also been awarded for bulk bin and street litter bin collections (including refilling of dog waste bag dispensers), along with organic waste processing.

More information will be provided to City of Marion customers ahead of the new service starting on 1 May 2020.
