A community celebration to mark the official opening of a $65,000 upgrade of Brolga Place Reserve at Sturt kicks off at 10am this Saturday, July 9.

The Council upgrade of the neighbourhood playground includes:

• A new barbecue

• Refreshed line marking on the basketball court

• A netball post and ring

• Fitness equipment

• New seating

• A pathway to the basketball court

• Natural landscaping

During the consultation, residents suggested several changes that have been incorporated into the design including the planting of some native flowering meadow mix to provide colour, and new irrigation.

A mound has been built up behind the basketball court to help stop the ball rolling onto the road.

“Come along and enjoy the opening celebration from 10am to 11am this Saturday,” Mayor of Marion Kris Hanna said.

“We’ll have a coffee van there during the morning offering complimentary hot beverages and facilitators from the Move It program running basketball drills and games as well as an instruction session on how to use the park fitness equipment.

“The Move It program is a new partnership between the Cities of Marion, Mitcham, and Holdfast Bay, created to help communities discover new places and spaces in their council area, and the many ways they can keep active.”
