The City of Marion took out four top honours at the 22nd Annual Leadership Excellence Awards hosted by Local Government Professionals Australia, SA, on Friday night.

The Leadership Excellence Awards included:

  • The Excellence in Infrastructure Delivery Award for the City of Marion’s Mitchell Park Sports and Community Centre Development.
  • The Community Partnerships and Collaboration Award for the City of Marion ‘Early Years Collective Impact Initiative’.
  • The Excellence in Cross Council Collaboration Award for the ‘Advance Care Directive Peer-Led Workshop Project’ involving the City of Marion, City of Onkaparinga, City of Holdfast Bay and City of Mitcham.
  • The Marion at First Sight team from the City of Marion who won the 2023 Management Challenge.

The City of Marion’s Edwardstown Employment Precinct Project Team was also a worthy finalist for a fifth award, the Excellence in Local Economic Development, for their project to revitalise the Edwardstown Employment Precinct.

Acting Chief Executive Ben Keen said the City of Marion was a council of excellence and the awards and nominations were well-deserved recognition for leadership, innovation, teamwork and collaboration.

“The City of Marion is truly setting a benchmark for excellence in the Local Government Sector,” Mr Keen said.

The Local Government Professionals Australia, SA Leadership Excellence Awards cover a dozen categories that recognise outstanding achievement and innovation in local government.

Almost 500 local government professionals attended this year’s Gala Dinner at the Adelaide Convention Centre, solidifying the event as the sector’s premier night of the year.

In 2023, Local Government Professionals Australia, SA received 122 nominations and shortlisted 36 finalists over 11 categories.

Seventeen teams competed in the 2023 Management Challenge in early May.

“The event is a showcase of the amazing services and programs that local government delivers each year to our communities. It’s an excellent opportunity to recognise and celebrate those achievements—it’s local government’s night of nights”, said Rhiannon Grebenshikoff, Chief Executive Officer of Local Government Professionals Australia, SA.
