COM372 Cat By law 1920x1080px LS V1 copy4

  • Council is considering introducing a new by-law to confine cats to their owner’s property from 9pm to 7am each day.
  • The aim is to protect wildlife and reduce the nuisance behaviour of cats.

So Council makes a decision while understanding the community’s views, people are invited to provide feedback by Monday, 27 May.

The new By-Law 7 would involve:

  • Residents requesting cages from Council to help catch cats wandering at their property
  • Council’s Community Safety Inspectors given powers to seize and detain trapped cats. If owners cannot be identified, cats  could be impounded at the RSPCA
  • Fines of $187.50 could apply to owners who don’t keep cats indoors during curfew

  • Council is expected to consider community feedback at its meeting of 23 July.
