Community groups share nearly $50,000 in grants for local projects

A community radio station, several community gardens and a choir are among the 12 not-for-profit groups to receive funding from Round 2 of the City of Marion’s 2021/2022 Community Grants.

The successful recipients were endorsed at the Council’s May 10 General Meeting with their projects totalling $49,882.

“The City of Marion runs two rounds of Community Grants every year, with $50,000 available each round to support local not-for-profit groups with projects and activities that benefit the Marion community,” Mayor of Marion Kris Hanna said.

“We also run one annual round of Youth Development Grants worth $120,000 to support not-for-profit organisations in delivering projects and programs that strengthen connections for young people in our community.

“The next round of our Community Grants for 2022/2023 and our annual round of Youth Development Grants will open on May 23 with submissions closing on June 20.”

The successful recipients from Round 2 of the City of Marion’s 2021/2022 Community Grants include:

  • Southern and Western Community Broadcasters Inc (COAST FM) – Community radio equipment upgrade;
  • Marino Community Garden – Garden Bed Renewal;
  • Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Hallett Cove – Purchase of equipment for use by ‘Men in the Shed’ Community Group;
  • ROOSQUAD (Morphettville Park Sports & Community Club) – Fit for purpose football and cricket training equipment for people with a disability;
  • Trott Park Community Garden – Purchase equipment working towards a zero-carbon footprint;
  • Oaklands Community Garden – Improving infrastructure to increase community engagement;
  • Vocalize Choir – Sheet music for Vocalize Choir;
  • South Coast Cycling – Purchase of an e-bike;
  • Foodbank of South Australia – Foodbank emergency relief – Kindness in a Bag Program;
  • Lions Club of Marion City Inc – Purchase of equipment for community events;
  • Koorana Gymnastics Club Inc – Replacement / upgrade of gymnastic equipment;
  • Vietnam Veterans’ Foundation SA Branch Inc. Card making to support Australian troops and their families.
