The City of Marion’s third annual Garden Showcase is now underway, celebrating the many gardeners and the wide variety of gardens across the district.

This year the community will choose the winning entry from each of the six categories, voting for their favourite garden from an online gallery of shortlisted photographs and garden descriptions posted on the Council’s website.

The six categories include:

  • Young gardener (under 12) - For children under 12 years old who show enthusiasm and commitment to gardening.
  • Gardening together - For communal or shared gardens that show how gardening together can build social connection. Entries are encouraged from community gardens, schools, childcare centres, community organisations and businesses.
  • Edible garden - For productive gardens growing fruit and vegetables.
  • Outdoor garden - For attractive residential gardens that show originality or creativity and consideration for the environment.
  • Verge garden - For attractive verge gardens that meet our Verge Development Guidelines and have been designed with the environment in mind.
  • Wildlife-friendly garden - For gardens that support native wildlife such as birds, bees, butterflies, reptiles, frogs, or bats! Bonus points for wildlife-friendly gardens with local native plants, flowers throughout the year and different storeys of vegetation. Find out more in this booklet about wildlife friendly gardens

The 2022 Garden Showcase recognises and celebrates the incredible gardens across the City of Marion.

It is open to residents, community groups, organisations, businesses and schools that want to share the story of their garden. This year we have some great new categories and our community will judge the winners.

The winners from five of the categories will have their choice of a $100 voucher from either Bunnings or the State Flora Nursery.

The winner of the Young Gardener category receives a $50 Visa Gift voucher.

All the winners will be invited to take part in a professional photo shoot of their garden and will have these special images to keep.

Everyone who votes during the judging period goes into a draw to win a $50 Visa Gift voucher.

To enter, fill out a short online form for a nominated category and upload up to three quality, high-resolution photographs.

Entries opened on October 10, and close on November 6. The community can view the shortlisted entries online and vote for their favourites during the official judging period between November 10 and November 27.

More information about the Garden Showcase is available on the Council website.
