LED street lighting comes to Marion

The City of Marion is replacing all of its 8525 street lights with LED energy-efficient globes to cut electricity costs and reduce emissions.

The initiative is expected to cut energy use by 75 per cent, saving ratepayers about $10 million over the project’s 20-year span.

Carbon emissions will be reduced by more than 1600 tonnes a year.

Switching to LED lighting will save ratepayers’ money, help protect the environment and improve visibility on roads and footpaths.

SA Power Networks has been contracted to install the lights at a cost of $3.1 million. Work is being conducted by Enerven.

The installation is expected to be completed by June 2019.
