The Marion Cultural Centre is set to show-off its brand new energy efficient stage and theatre lights when the Fringe Festival kicks off on Friday night.

The Domain Theatre now has the best lights in Adelaide for theatre performance after staff worked tirelessly to install the new system over the summer period.

The $150,000 system - which was delivered under budget - allows more flexibility for theatre productions, musicians and other artists to bring their shows to life.

The previously used incandescent lamps, which lasted 500 hours have been replaced with LEDs. In comparison, they last an average of 50,000 hours before needing replacement.

It will result in significant financial savings long-term thanks to the increased efficiency of the new installation.

In the past, the theatre staff at the MCC have been forced to manually change lights, but now all the controls are at their fingertips.

And the upgrade has been completed ahead of schedule just in time for the launch of the Fringe Festival.

There have been over 1200 tickets already sold for 22 shows at the Domain Theatre and those heading along will get the first look at the new lighting display.

It all starts on Friday night with a theatre performance produced by a small collective of emerging Aboriginal creatives.

Trail's End is a one-act play that follows two brothers on a journey that explores issues of family and identity.

Tickets are still available at FringeTix.
