October is Mental Health Month. What are you doing in your organisation to proactively strengthen wellbeing?

Are your team stressed, fearful and experiencing loss at the moment? Some employees are reluctant to return to the office. Working from home has plenty of challenges, though. Even NASA astrophysicist Amber Straughn tweeted about “how to keep cats from accidentally commanding spacecraft”!

It’s time to look at what we can do to proactively improve wellbeing.

How are your employees? Have you got a proactive plan to strengthen wellbeing?

Here are some questions to ask your people and some suggestions for where to get help.

Questions to ask your employees

  • How are you going?
  • How is your family?
  • How’s your team going?
  • How is this impacting you?
  • How do you feel about this?

What you are listening for?

  • Do they sound anxious, fearful, depressed or at risk?
  • Are managers troubled about their team members?
  • Do managers have a proactive wellbeing plan in place?
  • Do they need support?
  • Listen for feelings and values: are employees resentful, dissatisfied, working outside their values, thinking they are being treated unfairly or being kept in the dark?

Think about...

  • Refer to counselling services via their GP
  • Use the Mental Health and Wellbeing Business Advisory Service in Southern Adelaide to create a proactive plan to strengthen wellbeing.
  • Consider: ergonomic, technical, mental health or childcare support to help employees work from hom
