The Marion Outdoor Pool has proved it’s still one of the premier aquatic facilities in Adelaide after smashing its previous record for attendance this past swimming season.

The 2023-24 season has now concluded at the Marion Outdoor Pool with more than 142,000 people enjoying the facilities between October and May.

It marked the first time the MOP has continued operating throughout April extending the season by four weeks, which resulted in an additional 4987 visits to the pool.

There were some significant benefits from the extension including the ability for 2 more schools to hold its swimming carnivals. The pool also hosted a ‘Welcome to SA Shores’ Multicultural Surf Life Saving Program during April.

Despite the extension, the MOP had already surpassed last season’s attendance by the middle of March setting a new record for visits to the pool.

Seasonal membership also grew by 65 per cent in 2023-24.

The MOP also hosted the biggest swimming centre-based Water Safety Vacswim program in the state.

“Our outdoor pool has delighted the people of southwestern Adelaide for generations," Mayor of Marion Kris Hanna said.

“Now it is more popular than ever.”

MOP staff are now working on the program for the 2024-25 season. Three movie nights are scheduled for December, January and April.

There will also be some exciting new programs including dry land fitness and yoga classes to be held on the lawns and the development of sensory sessions for children.
