During the construction period the wooden decked pathway on the western side of the site will be closed for safety as work is carried out (see map below). The skate park and eastern side of the site will remain accessible.

Background | Stage 1

Stage 1 of the Recreation Plaza (skate park) was completed September 2015 and includes elements that allow for skateboards, BMX, scooters and inline skaters and creates a strong interface with Oaklands Road.

Stage 2

On 28 February 2017 Council endorsed Stage 2 of the Oaklands Recreation Plaza, following community consultation that was undertaken in May 2017.

The objective of the Recreation Plaza is to create a high quality, landscaped, multi-use space providing recreation opportunities for youth and a diversity of uses for the general community.

The scope of works will create a high quality, landscaped, multi-use space providing recreation opportunities, which will complement the wetland including development of the land previously occupied by the Round House.

Key features of the Stage 2 works:

Sports Facilities

  • Trike track for bikes, scooters and beginner skaters
  • Skate mounds
  • Retention of the basketball court

Social Facilities

  • Picnic table, shelter, bench seating
  • Rotunda with artwork, lighting, power and water
  • Amphitheatre seating
  • Irrigated turf area for events
