Lest We Forget: Remembrance Day commemorations in City of Marion

Remembrance Day on Friday, November 11, marks the anniversary of the Armistice which brought an end to World War I, 1914 – 1918.

Commemorations are being held across the State, including a 10.30 am service at the Marion RSL and a 10.45 am informal community observation at Hallett Cove.

It is the tradition that at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, a minute’s silence is observed and dedicated to those who gave their lives in the service of their country.

Marion RSL

The Marion RSL Sub-Branch at 31 Norfolk Road is hosting a public service at 10.30 am with elected representatives and guests laying wreaths at the memorial at 10.45 am, the playing of The Last Post at 10.55 am and the observance of a minute’s silence at 11 am.

RSL President Rob Kraehe has extended an invitation for members of the public to join the sub-branch for light refreshments in the clubrooms after the service.

Heron Way Reserve War Memorial

The Lions Club of Hallett Cove and Districts is hosting an informal community observation at the Heron Way Reserve War Memorial at 10.45 am.

Members of the public are welcome to lay wreaths. The Last Post will be played at 10.55 am with a minute’s silence observed at 11 am.

Moseley Square Glenelg

The Plympton Glenelg RSL Sub-branch is not hosting a commemoration at the Edwardstown Soldiers' Memorial Recreation Ground.

The sub-branch is holding a public service at the ANZAC Memorial in Moseley Square, Glenelg.

SA National War Memorial

The Adelaide city service commences at 10:45 am, at the SA National War Memorial, corner of North Terrace and Kintore Avenue.

Veterans, serving ADF personnel, families and members of the public may attend. Road closures will be in effect on North Terrace and Kintore Avenue from 10:30 am.

The Field of Remembrance features thousands of crosses planted in the lawns adjacent to Government House, Adelaide. The crosses are planted by veteran associations and school students.
