The 2022 AusCycling BMX National rounds will launch out of the start gate during the Santos Festival of Cycling, with the opening rounds to take place at the brand-new SWBMX from January 22-23.

It’s an exciting step for not only BMX in Australia but also for two of the biggest clubs in South Australia, The Cove BMX and Happy Valley BMX Club who will share the new facility in the heart of The City of Marion’s Glenthorne National Park-Ityamaiitpinna Yarta.

Chris Hanna, club president of Cove BMX Club said both clubs are excited by the facility and what it has to offer.

“Everyone is really keen for the new facility and to get on the track. It’s certainly going to be bigger and attract some big events like the National Rounds, so that’s really exciting,” Hanna said.

South Australia has a rich history when it comes to BMX with some of the very best, including Sam Willoughby, Anthony Dean and Brian Kirkham, beginning their careers in and around Adelaide.

This new facility will aim to continue this trend into the future with the state-of-the-art facility now just days away from being unveiled.

“Having a world-class facility in our back yard is going to be great for rider development and will mean that local riders can develop here without the need to travel to access these types of facilities,” Hanna said.

“SWBMX Facility will also be able to showcase some of the best events in the country which will hopefully lead to greater involvement and participation.”

At the end of 2021, the Cove BMX Club hosted their final state championships in Hallett Cove with close to 400 riders attending. The club has been a hotbed for BMX talent for close to 40 years and has experienced a raft of milestones in that time, including multiple state championships and significant events, track developments and an ever-growing membership base.
