City of Marion residents can now select their favourite Garden Showcase entries with community voting on shortlisted gardens now open.

The Garden Showcase is in its third year with the event aiming to celebrate the wonderful gardens and gardeners across the City of Marion.

This year, for the first time, the community selects the winning entry from each of the six categories, voting for their favourite garden from an online gallery of shortlisted photographs and garden descriptions posted on the Council’s website.

The official judging period opened last week and closes on November 27.

The six categories include:

  • Young gardener (under 12) - For children under 12 years old who show enthusiasm and commitment to gardening.
  • Gardening together - For communal or shared gardens that show how gardening together can build social connection. Entries are encouraged from community gardens, schools, childcare centres, community organisations and businesses.
  • Edible garden - For productive gardens growing fruit and vegetables.
  • Outdoor garden - For attractive residential gardens that show originality or creativity and consideration for the environment.
  • Verge garden - For attractive verge gardens that meet our Verge Development Guidelines and have been designed with the environment in mind.
  • Wildlife-friendly garden - For gardens that support native wildlife such as birds, bees, butterflies, reptiles, frogs, or bats! Bonus points for wildlife-friendly gardens with local native plants, flowers throughout the year and different storeys of vegetation. Find out more in this booklet about wildlife friendly gardens

The winners from five of the categories will have their choice of a $100 voucher from either Bunnings or the State Flora Nursery.

The winner of the Young Gardener category receives a $50 Visa Gift voucher.

All the winners will be invited to take part in a professional photo shoot of their garden and will have these special images to keep.

Everyone who votes during the judging period goes into a draw to win a $50 Visa Gift voucher.
