Youth Grants Latest News

The purpose of the Youth Development Grants Program is to support not-for-profits groups to deliver exciting, well-managed and relevant projects, programs and activities whilst strengthening connections for young people in our community.

The grants can assist youth organisations and services to identify projects that they feel meet a local need, utilising their experience, expertise and existing connections in the City of Marion. The Youth Development Grants will contribute to providing positive opportunities in a strong, connected and inclusive community.

Applications should reflect and support the following reports and policies:

All projects should be accessible as possible for all groups, including people of various genders, ages, sexuality, cultural backgrounds, religious beliefs and those living with disability.

Please refer to the Youth Development Grants Guidelines below for more information on eligibility.

A total funding pool of $120,000 is available. Maximum $10,000 per application.

Timeline*

This round of Youth Grants opens 4 August 2020 and closes on 1 September.
Recipients will be notified in November 2020 of their outcome.

Successful Grants for 2019/20

The Australian Army Cadets – 431 Outdoor Activity support

Unit 431 is a part of the larger Army Cadet and defence family. The Australian Army Cadets adopts the values of the Australian Army - Courage, Initiative, Respect and Teamwork - to empower young people to achieve their potential. Their unit is focused on providing an opportunity for personal growth, responsibility, respect and support. They aim to provide as many opportunities as possible for cadets to unplug and experience the independence of life in the field.

Sammy D Foundation – Adulting 101: Skills for Life

The Adulating 101: Skills for Life Program supports young people aged 16-24 who are navigating the transition from adolescence to adulthood. It covers aspects of managing personal affairs, healthy lifestyles, tenancies, respectful relationships, finance, debt and employment. This program was developed based on identified need in the community, and content shaped though consultation with young people

Trees for Life – Down to earth project

The Down to Earth Project will work with young people from local schools and include a series of hands-on environmental activities developing skills in natural resource management and horticulture, including plant propagation, bush planting and care of native plants. The project is co-designed by Trees For Life (TFL), students and teachers.

Flinders’ New Venture Institute – eNVIsage

Flinders’ New Venture Institute (NVI) is South Australia’s premier Centre for innovation, educating, developing, enabling and connecting a vibrant ecosystem of innovative businesses, curious and passionate students, dedicated researchers, international academics, and committed government partners to create future opportunities. Selected participants will receive a place in Flinders University New Venture Institute's (NVI)'s award-winning 8-week business start-up program called 'Venture Dorm', coupled with 5 months access to eNVIsion, NVI's co-working and business support program. The eNVIsage Program takes a business, product or service from idea to an executable business.

Lutheran Community Care (LCC) – Look Again

This program is for young people 12-17 years of age from new arrival CALD backgrounds as well as their community. The project will be delivered after school for 8 weeks addressing matters of gender roles, self-esteem and body image, social media and cyber security. Lutheran Community Care (LCC) works with the vision of building strong caring communities. They are a highly experienced community services provider with over 130 staff and 570 volunteers. They work alongside and within communities to develop effective ways of empowering individuals, young people and families, addressing disadvantage and injustice using holistic and place-based approaches

MarionLIFE – MarionLIFE Youth Events team

MarionLIFE Youth Events Team is a mobile youth service largely run by 18-25 year old volunteers. Local schools, youth services and community events can book the Youth Events Team to travel to their desired location to provide activities including sports, games, craft and life skills workshops for young people aged 10-17 years. The project provides a safe, welcoming and supervised space for young people who may find it difficult to connect and engage with others in their community.

Finstart Inc – Skater Girl

Skater Girl is a contemporary dance theatre performance inspired by street culture and promoting healthy active lifestyles. Skater Girl is an inspirational story for young people to overcome barriers of the mind to achieve goals. The events will have live music by a local DJ and young people will have the chance to participate in roller-skating following the performance.

True North Youth Theatre Ensemble Marion – Mental

This project is the next step in the newly created Youth Ensemble - True North Marion, this group were the creators of ‘Drop Out’ funded through the 2018/19 grant round. This year’s production ‘Mental’ was chosen to explore by the young people within the ensemble and will revolve around the theme of mental health and illness and the effect it has on young people.

YMCA – Yplay

The YMCA MISSION is simply stated as" We believe in the power of inspired young people”; young people whose passions are recognized and facilitated and who will be change makers in their own world and the world around them. YMCA has successfully operated community and recreation facilities across SA and have recently created a dedicated youth space at the Marion Fitness and Leisure Centre. Yplay is a school holiday program where pparticipants will learn about the environment, science, technology, and engineering, math (STEM) and creative expression through interactive and play based activities.

Holly Winter – Youth Filmmaking Workshops

Holly Winter is a young experienced filmmaker and will be planning and delivering the workshop curriculum. As well as organising the other aspects of the project, she is aiming to inspire participants in what they can achieve as young people. The filmmaking project is a storytelling platform incorporating many areas of the creative arts, and provides a voice for the young storyteller in the community. This project aims to equip young people with skills in filmmaking in eight weekly workshops and some additional full day school holiday sessions - from story development, to camera and sound operation, and post-production - and, as a team, produce final short films to be screened in the community and entered into film festivals.
