Things to do
Jervois Street Reserve in South Plympton offers something for people of all ages with a fenced junior playground, senior playground, fitness equipment, bike tracks, basketball/netball facilities, a toilet and picnic facilities.
The junior playground is fully fenced with a sandpit with bucket and pulley and water play all under the beautiful shade of a butterfly.
Kids love exploring the apple tunnel and climbing the log steps to the mound slide. Another beautiful butterfly shade shelters the swings.
Discover “Jervie” our caterpillar sculpted by Geoff Bromilow a local wood artist. Rachel Dempsey won our competition to name him and we’re sure he only eats leaves... Actually he probably eats apples too as there seems to be a large hole in the one here!
Watch the short video showing the iconic Butterfly Shade being craned into position.
The senior playground has a higher-than-average flying fox, wooden climbing frame and a spinning-swinging tyre swing. Big bright butterfly shades provide cover over the wooden climbing frame.
There is a gravel "pump track" and undulating bitumen area to test your biking and scooting skills. A 3 on 3 basketball court and netball ring keep older kids entertained.
Circling the site is a 280 metre path that kids love scooting along and the central area of the reserve has a central oval (44m x 32m) with raised mounds so balls don't roll too far away.
There is a selection of static fitness equipment in the southwest corner of the reserve.
To see how to use the equipment, watch the video.
On the southern side of the reserve are chess tables and a table tennis table. Bring your equipment/game pieces and challenge a friend.
There are a number of public art pieces throughout the reserve. Find out more about them on our Art in public places webpage.
