Dumped trolleys

Dumped Trolley Campaign - Summit finds solution to eyesore

Marion Council hosted a Trolley Summit on 12 July 2018 to find a solution to abandoned shopping trolleys in our city.

About 40 participants from government and private sector organisations – including retailers – identified 17 solutions.

Some of the ideas presented included:

  • GPS tracking
  • Coin-operated trolleys.
  • Community education campaigns
  • Introduction of by-laws to force retailers to collect trolleys or face a financial penalty.

A report has been prepared summarising the outcomes of the summit.

Council staff will assess the ideas of coming months while continuing to work with industry to clean up the streets.
