Artist opportunities

The City of Marion values creativity and artistic expression in community life and is committed to providing support and opportunities for individual artists and arts organisations to be involved in projects, events, festivals, community celebrations, and art in public places. Following are some regular opportunities:

Council support for South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival artists

Council supports local artists taking part in the SALA Festival by subsidising artist registrations for individuals and groups with a rebate of $120.

Limited rebates are available. Be quick - first in best dressed.

Artists who do not reside within the City of Marion, but are holding an exhibition in the council area for SALA are also eligible to claim the rebate.

Eligible artists should pay their registration as normal to the SALA office, then send a photocopy or electronic copy of their receipt to the Arts and Cultural Development Officer.

Post: City of Marion, PO Box 21, Oaklands Park, SA, 5046

Grants Programs

The Community Grants program and the Youth Grants program assist local non-profit community groups and organisations to establish and undertake innovative projects or activities that are of benefit to the community.

Commissioning and contract opportunities

Call for Expressions of Interest – stobie poles and utility boxes (Close 22 February 2021)

The City of Marion has embarked on a three-year program of painting stobie poles and utility boxes within the city. The murals project is expected to be delivered in stages working with SA Power Networks (SAPN), NBN, and Council for approvals and site access. This brief is seeking Expressions of Interest from visual artists interested in working with Council to deliver the first of a three-year program to enhance the nominated infrastructure, add creativity, colour and contribute to a sense of place through a range of small murals painted on stobie poles (both sides) and utility boxes.

Submissions are encouraged from artists who have experience or would like to gain experience working in the public realm. This project is suitable for artists interested in obtaining experience working on smaller-scale public art.

Please see below to view the artist brief;

Watch this space for opportunities for commissions for public art projects and employment opportunities for community arts projects.
