I work in mainly oils and conte’s, but have some pencil drawings as well. Most of my work is representational and I can paint any subject matter, mostly from life.

Biography

Painting comes naturally to me. As far back as I can remember I was always drawing and I remember watching my father paint.

I was born in Unterwossen, Bavaria and came to Adelaide in 1960. I began drawing and painting at an early age and also have an affinity for sculpture and music. Over the years I have mainly painted from life and have a great fascination for the process a painting goes through untill it is finally completed. Any subject interests me but portraits are the most rewarding as the soul of the sitter is eventually captured on the canvas.

I have also taught art and held life-drawing classes to encourage others to develop their talents. I have participated in various exhibitions over the years and have accepted commissions which I have enjoyed very much. My overseas travels have taken me to Germany, Austria and France, where I could study the old masters paintings first hand. My inspiration comes from somewhere deep within my soul. Nature and humanity are forever changing and therefore are a constant source of amazement to me. You can see it clearly in a flower freshly picked as it slowly withers, or a portrait painted twice with many years in between.

Achievements

In 1996 I designed, created and supervised the building of a bronze fountain for Christian Brothers College, corner Wakefield and Frome Rd, Adelaide.

In 2004 I was a finalist in the Doug Moran Portrait Prize.

In 2010 I opened ‘Heritage Gallery’ to the public.
