Community Transport


We help eligible residents access services and facilities with a range of transport programs. These programs are funded by the Commonwealth and State Governments and the City of Marion.

Depending on a person's needs, they can access a service to keep them independent and active. Some of the services below require a referral from My Aged Care. Please contact the service of choice to discuss a request further.

Eligibility for Services

An outline of the eligibility criteria is below to assist you in choosing the service that best meets your needs. A waiting list may exist for some services.

Community Bus

The Community Bus is a door-to-door service supported by the City of Marion volunteer drivers. This service travels to specific destinations, including  shopping centres, libraries, neighbourhood centres and senior citizens clubs.

Eligibility criteria to access this service includes:

  • Difficulty accessing public transport and no access to a private vehicle
  • The person is independent when they arrive at the destination
  • Transport disadvantaged or socially isolated

Community bus

Community Passenger Network

A coordinated link to take people to their destination, the Community Passenger Network (CPN) is for people living in the inner south metro region - the cities of Marion, Holdfast Bay and Mitcham.

The Inner Southern Metro CPN is jointly funded through Commonwealth and State government grants and delivered by the City of Marion. The CPN aim is to support independence by assisting people with transport needs.

Eligibility criteria to access this service includes:

  • The frail and elderly
  • People with disabilities
  • The transport disadvantaged

Neighbourhood centres transport

The four centres are able to offer transport to and from our programs and activities if you are unable to use the community bus. The transport is provided through taxi vouchers and funded by the Commonwealth Government.

Eligibility criteria to access this service includes:

  • People who are 65 years and over.
  • Attending a Neighbourhood Centre Program.
  • Needing transport to and from the program or activity.

Social Support Individual

A volunteer assisted service for people who need someone to stand beside them. The City of Marion volunteer will pick up, transport and accompany the person to and/or from medical or allied health appointments/activities, shopping and banking needs, friendly visiting or social outings to enjoy a lunch or coffee and a chat.

The social support program also provides a volunteer to visit people who are isolated and/or house bound for social interaction, emotional support, reading/completing non-legal forms and letters.

Eligibility criteria to access this service includes:

  • Frail older person 65 years or over, under 65 living with a disability.
  • A carer of either of the above.
  • A person who no longer drives or has difficulty accessing public transport.
  • A person who is socially isolated.
