Starting a community garden

Contact our Community Gardens Coordinator to find out what is involved in starting a new community garden and how we can help.

We take a community development approach to community gardening where community groups initiate and run community gardens themselves with support from council and other partners. We support these groups by assessing proposed sites, facilitating community engagement, supporting with planning and design, promotions, site preparation and building group capacity.

Our Community Garden Guidelines outline the steps involved in starting a community garden on Council land.

If you want to start a community garden in your area, you will need to submit a short online expression of interest form. Our Community Gardens Coordinator will then contact you to find out more about your ideas, link you with existing groups and guide you through the process.
