Services we offer
Resilient South is about what we can do in the Southern Region to make sure our businesses, communities, and environments can tackle the challenges of climate change.
Changes in our climate, such as higher temperatures, declining rainfall, and rising sea levels require active management of risks. Resilient South will also seek to harness opportunities presented by these changes, so that the region continues to thrive and prosper.
Resilient South is an initiative of the Cities of Holdfast Bay, Marion, Mitcham and Onkaparinga, supported by the South Australian and Australian Governments.
Resilient South won the Local Government Champions Award in front of 400 climate experts at the 2014 Climate Adaptation Conference on 2 October 2014 (see related documents below).
On 7 February 2018 the Cities of Marion, Mitcham, Holdfast Bay and Onkaparinga renewed their commitment to working with the South Australian Government in responding to climate change.
The Resilient South Climate Change Sector Agreement runs until June 2020 and provides a clear and coordinated approach for us to work with agencies and ministers on agreed climate adaptation actions.
Signing this document is a statement of our intent to work closely together for the next three years to deliver priorities identified in our Resilient South Regional Adaptation Plan that was developed in consultation with our community.
Deputy Mayor Janet Byram renews Marion’s commitment to protecting the southern region by signing the The Resilient South Climate Change Sector Agreement. The document was also signed by Minister for Climate Change Ian Hunter, represented by chief executive DEWNR Sandy Pitcher, Mayor of Onkaparinga Lorraine Rosenberg, Deputy Mayor Holdfast Bay Amanda Wilson and Mayor of Mitcham Glenn Spear.
