Through its Community Vision and Strategic Plan, the City of Marion has expressed a strong commitment to support the community through a number of grant opportunities. Eligible groups will encourage community connection for all people in our community. The Community Vision is for a city that is liveable, valuing nature, engaged, prosperous, innovative and connected.

Applications should reflect diversity and inclusiveness by ensuring projects, programs and activities are as inclusive and accessible as possible for all groups, including people of various gender, age, sexuality, cultural backgrounds, religious beliefs and those living with disability.

Community Grants (Closed - Re-opens 2024 date TBC)

The Community Grants Program

The purpose of the Community Grants Program is to support local not-for-profit incorporated groups to establish and undertake projects or activities that are beneficial for the community.

Prior to applying, and for more information on eligibility, please refer to the Community Grants Guidelines.

Applications should reflect and support the following reports and policies:

• The City of Marion Community Vision and Strategic Plan
• The City of Marion Equity, Access and Social Inclusion Policy Statement.

Applications should ensure programs, activities and events are inclusive and as accessible as possible for all groups, including people of various genders, ages, sexuality, cultural backgrounds, religious beliefs and those living with disability.

Grants of up to $5,000 per applicant and one grant per round of up to $10,000 are available with a total pool of $100,000 of funding per financial year.

Successful recipients from 2023/24 Round 1 are:

  • Brighton Church of Christ Community Care Inc - Wellbeing through Food Security
  • Riding for the Disabled South Australia Inc - O'Halloran Hill Centre - Street Appeal and Property Maintenance Project

  • Ascot Park Bowling Club Inc - First Aid Training to Club Members and Volunteers
  • The Probus Club of Hallett Cove Incorporated - Club History Computer File Storage
  • Meals on Wheels - Edwardstown Branch - Safe Path and Welcoming Front Garden
  • Marion Bowling Club Inc - Lawnmower
  • Koorana Gymnastics Club - Equipment purchase


Community Event Fund

Applications will be open each financial year and funds will be distributed across two six-month periods.

Applicants may apply for up to $1,000 per event, per financial year. Subject to eligibility.

Applicants are encouraged to submit complete applications one month prior to the event to ensure enough time for processing.

What is the Community Event Fund?

The Community Event Fund holds $16,000 per financial year to assist local not-for-profit organisations to stage events or festivals. With the intention of providing a contribution to the cost of infrastructure for events that demonstrate a benefit to the City of Marion and which are in line with the City of Marion Strategic Plan.

If your planned event is on Council-owned land or facilities you will need to apply for a Special Event Permit.

Youth Grants (Closed - Re-opens 2024 date TBC)

The Youth Grants Program

The purpose of the Youth Grants Program is to support not-for-profit groups to deliver well-managed and relevant projects, programs and activities whilst strengthening connections for young people in our community.

The grants can assist youth organisations and services to identify projects that they feel meet a local need, utilising their experience, expertise and existing connections in the City of Marion. The Youth Grants will contribute to providing positive opportunities in a strong, connected and inclusive community.

Applications should reflect and support the following reports and policies:

All projects should be as accessible as possible for all groups, including people of various genders, ages, sexuality, cultural backgrounds, religious beliefs and those living with disability.

A total funding pool of $120,000 is available per financial year. Maximum $10,000 per application.

Youth Achievement Grants

The Youth Achievement Grants Program has an annual budget of $25,000 and is available each year from 1 July until the budget is exhausted.

Young people aged 12-25 years at the time of the event are eligible to apply.

What is the Youth Achievement Grants Program?

The purpose of the Youth Achievement Grants is to encourage young people who have achieved outstanding results in their chosen fields. The grants program aims to award financial assistance to support young people in achieving their individual goals. Grants are available for young people who are residents of the City of Marion, under the following categories but not limited to: Education and Academic Performance, Youth Leadership eg: Youth Parliament, Youth Forums, The Arts eg: Creative, Visual and Performing, Sports and Recreation eg: State and National Competitions, Community and Culture, Technology and Innovation, Environmental Sustainability.

Applicants are eligible for

$200 - state-level representation or equivalent in your chosen field

$400 - national-level representation or equivalent in your chosen field

$400 - state & national level representation for the same activity

Youth Partnership Opportunities

The City of Marion places a strong emphasis on working with partners and collaborators across the city and region, acknowledging the expertise, knowledge and creativity these diverse groups contribute to strengthening community connections for young people.

Partnerships will create opportunities for youth participation and engagement. The underlying principle of all partnerships will be the enhancement of young people’s strengths and capacity as contributors to their community and their own personal development.

Helpful hints

Before submitting your grant application here are some helpful hints to assist you:

  • Plan your application
    • make it easy for someone to approve your application
    • provide everything required and if in doubt, ask
  • Read the guidelines and review eligibility criteria before starting an application
  • Access the online application early to identify any technical issues & consider registration/login in details (shared mailboxes)
  • Understand the grants process and how long it will take to receive funding
  • Review policies and documents provided by the funder and consider any needs/priority areas that have been identified within the City of Marion
  • Ensure relevant approvals have been received before applying ie development approvals, landlord consent
  • Contact the Grants Officer with any questions
  • Check for spelling errors
  • Avoid acronyms
  • Assume the assessors have no knowledge of your organisation or your project
  • Answer questions in full so they can stand alone
  • Always back up your responses with evidence from reliable sources
  • Review information if copying from a previous application
  • Get someone else to review your application before submitting (allow sufficient time for them to do so)
Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Once I have applied and I am successful, how long until I receive my money?
A:
Community Grants and Youth Grants can take approximately 4-5 months from round opening to Council endorsement. Other successful grant recipients are generally notified within four weeks

Q: How will I receive my money?
A:
Payment will be made via EFT

Q: Can I submit my grant application in hard copy?
A:
All applications must be submitted online via SmartyGrants

Q: What is auspicing?
A:
If your organisation is unincorporated you will need an incorporated organisation with an ABN to sponsor your application. They will receive the funds on your behalf and will be responsible for ensuring the funds are acquitted

Q: What is an acquittal?
A:
An acquittal is an accurate report at the end of your project on how the grant money was spent and what it was spent on. It will include a copy of all receipts and will demonstrate that the funding has been used for the purpose outlined in the application

Q: Does the City of Marion offer grant writing workshops?
A:
Grant writing workshops are not available as the application process has been streamlined and the forms have been made as simple as possible
