Transport and social support

Transport and social support options are available to help people live independently and be active members of our community.

Door-to-door transport services are suitable for residents who need to attend social or community activities, medical appointments, shopping centres, and libraries.

These services aim to enable people to continue to participate in daily activities within their community.

Community Bus

The Community Bus is a door-to-door service supported by the City of Marion volunteer drivers. This service travels to specific destinations, including shopping centres, libraries, neighbourhood centres and senior citizens clubs.


  • Live within the City of Marion
  • Have difficulty accessing public transport and no access to a private vehicle
  • Independent when you arrive at the destination.
  • Transport disadvantaged or socially isolated.

Community Passenger Network (CPN)

Available to residents living in the City of Mitcham, Marion and Holdfast Bay.

Transport is offered via taxi or a City of Marion volunteer to people who are unable to reach their destination because they are frail or elderly, living with disability or are transport disadvantaged.


· People over 65, or 50 if Australian or Torres Strait Islander, with a transport referral through My Aged Care (MAC)

· People UNDER 65 years who are transport disadvantaged and not receiving support via the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Social Support (accompanied by a volunteer)

A volunteer assisted service for people who need someone to stand beside them. The City of Marion volunteer will pick up, transport and accompany the person to and/or from medical or allied health appointments/activities, shopping and banking needs, friendly visiting or social outings to enjoy a lunch or coffee and a chat. Assistance is also available for decluttering and non-legal forms.

If during the COVID pandemic you are:

  • Isolating and awaiting a COVID test result
  • Quarantining due to testing positive to COVID
  • Minimising outings due to COVID

The following assistance can be provided:


  • Provide a shopping list to our staff over the phone and volunteers will deliver your shopping to your door (current COVID safe measures in place)

A wellbeing phone call

  • A call from our friendly staff for a chat
