Father’s Day fun for every kind of dad

Spring has sprung, and that means Father’s Day! This year, treat your dad or father-figure to an adventure filled with fun and exploration.

There’s something to do here for every type of dad, from BBQs in one of our reserves or exploring local history to adventuring through our stunning natural environment or freestyling around the bowl at Capella Skate Park and Hallett Cove.

And if your dad is a combination of these dads, then lucky for him, there are many adventures to be had in the City of Marion.

The BBQ obsessed

This type of dad has the sausage sizzle down to a fine art. All you need for this outing is the bread, sauce and snags and the whole family can enjoy dad's culinary skills at one of our many parks with BBQ facilities. There’s something for everyone at a park - open green spaces, playgrounds, bird life and fun family memories just waiting to be made. Try the newly upgraded Hugh Johnson Boulevard Reserve or use our handy search tool to find a park near you with BBQ facilities.

The daredevil

This type of dad has no fear and is always up for a challenge or maybe even a little healthy competition. This guy would love a mountain biking adventure at the O’Halloran Hill conversation park or and testing out the new pump track at Capella Drive Reserve.

The ocean lover

This dad loves the beach and maybe enjoys (or used to) the odd surf or bodyboard. Take him along the Botanical Trail in the Marino Conservation Park to visit the light house and then search for crabs and periwinkles at Marino Rocks.

The outdoorsy type

This dad loves to be outside. You can always find him pottering around in the garden, tending to his lawns, having a hit of tennis or a kick of the footy or just sitting out on the back patio with a cup of coffee. Take this dad on an outdoor adventure with a hike along the Coastal Walkway at Hallett Cove boardwalk (added bonus: there's a great little restaurant located at the start of this walkway for a coffee stop) or maybe check out the Sturt River Linear Park trail. Or head over to the Oaklands Wetland and take pics of a huge variety of native birds or maybe have a go at geocaching with this fun trail the whole family can enjoy.

The smarty pants

This dad lives for fun facts. He'll often start a sentence with “Did you know...?” Take this dad to check out the historical glacier site at the Hallett cove conservation park. Or maybe take the self-guided Marion Historic Village Heritage Walk where he can learn all about the fascinating history of the area. The walk includes historic sites such as Light Square, Annie Doolan’s Cottage, Laurel Cottage, the Old Marion Inn and Threadgold’s Birthing House.

Gallery M

The culture vulture

This dad is a creative type and has unrelenting curiosity. Take this dad to visit the Marion Cultural Centre and check out Gallery M (open 1 pm to 4 pm on Sundays) for an arts experience or take him on an adventure around the City of Marion to see the latest public artworks.

Needless to say, there are many types of dads and many things to do. With so many options, your dad will surely be spoilt for choice this Father’s Day!

We’d love to see how you spend the day. Share your pictures with us by using the hashtag #cityofmarion
