Tai Chi is an exercise based upon the Chinese concept of Yin and Yang, balance and harmony. The movements are characterised by softness, yielding quality and by a continuous flowing of energy. The principles of Tai Chi are similar to those of other martial arts which emphasise self-defense, it is played in slow motion and is accompanied by deep and rhythmic breathing.
