Things to do
Meet journalist, editor and writer Alan Atkinson and reflect on the anniversary of the Bali Bombing. Author of 'Three Weeks in Bali', a personal account of the Bali Bombing, Alan recounts his experiences as both a journalist and the Bombing in this lunchtime talk.
Alan Atkinson worked for the ABC for more than 20 years before leaving in 2015 after 10 years as Chief of Staff, Producer and Day Editor of the Adelaide Newsroom. He has also worked for newspapers in Australia and overseas, including the Sydney Morning Herald and the Adelaide Advertiser, the London Guardian and the Scotsman in Edinburgh. He was on holiday with his family in Bali when he was woken with news of the bombing. He was one of the first Western journalists on the scene. His radio and tV broadcasts on the morning after the bombing - which included eye-witness accounts and the first reliable death toll - were heard across Australia, earning him a Walkley Award nomination. He has won several other media awards, including Journalist of the Year in South Australia.
