Meet Dr Lewis Mitchell & Dr Katharina Richter of Tall Poppy Campaign, Australian Institute of Policy & Science.

Dr Lewis Mitchell 'Cyber socio-influence: understanding online human behavior using mathematics and data':

Online social networks are the new meeting places where people share ideas, discuss issues, and attempt to influence opinions. But how much of offline human behavior is reflected in online interactions, and how much can be learnt about individuals from their online footprints? Furthermore, how much of behavior is shaped by online social networks, and how much do we shape those networks? This talk will explore these questions through the lens of mathematical modeling and data science.

Dr Katharina Richter 'Ironman versus Superbug' :

The rise of superbugs, or antibiotic-resistant bacteria, is one of the biggest threats to human health. Currently, 700,000 people die every year due to superbugs and our best weapons (antibiotics) fail to effectively kill them.

Are we running out of ammunition in this battle? Where are superheros to safe us?

This presentation will highlight a novel treatment targeting bacterial iron pathways and its application in a first human clinical trial in Adelaide.
