Things to do
Meet Dr Ben Sparkes & Dr Luke Bennetts of Tall Poppy Campaign, Australian Institute of Policy & Science.
Dr Ben Sparkes 'The Quantum Internet: The Key to Encoding the Future':
Whenever we log onto Facebook, use online banking or shop on the internet we are sending our personal information across the world. Currently this information is protected from hackers by complex algorithms. However, with the development of a next-generation quantum computer all current methods for protecting our data will become easy to break, making our private details available to others. In this talk, Dr Sparkes will discuss how we can combine light and the laws of quantum mechanics to create an absolutely secure method of sending information over long distances.
Dr Luke Bennetts 'Ice Shelf Disintegration'
Hear Dr Luke Bennetts talk about the events leading to the catastrophic disintegrations of ice shelves around the Antarctic peninsula that began in 1995. He will discuss the relationship between the disintegrations and the loss of a protective sea ice buffer around the shelves.
Presented by Dr Caitlyn Byrt on behalf of Tall Poppy Campaign, Australian Institute of Policy & Science
