Touch-a-Truck presented by City of Marion

This free school holiday event will see kids, and adults, of all ages find out about the wonderful world of trucks by kicking the tyres, sitting in the cabs, and talking to the men and women who drive them.

Below you'll find some of the exciting vehicles you’ll see at Touch-a-Truck. There’s also a stack of free kid-friendly special activities.


Vehicles on display

Some of the vehicles on display will include:

City of Marion vehicles

13 vehicles on display, including a back hoe, street sweeper, ride-on-mower, tandem tipper, three-way tipper, single axle truck, signage truck, tower truck, line marking vehicle and roller.

SOLO Waste Collection Truck

Hop into the cabin and see what makes this big truck tick.

SAPOL patrol car

Get inside, flash lights, look at the gadgets.

Road Traffic Policing

The Crime Prevention Unit will have a vehicle which children can sit in as well as the Mercedes Sprinter Van SAPOL officers will be on hand to discuss road safety.

SA Police Historical Society

  • Two vintage motorcycles
  • The Bedford Prison Van
  • Old highway patrol cars
  • Old English Escort police van
  • Historical society volunteers will be there in uniform - a great chance for a fun photo.

Metropolitan Fire Service truck

Talk to firefighters about how they keep the community safe and see a fire truck up close.

Fulton Hogan

View traffic vehicle and display and find out about the Darlington Upgrade Project

Adelaide Truck Tow

Will be bringing and impressive colourful tow truck..

Oaklands Crossing Project

See an excavator up close.

St John

  • Explore a communications van
  • See the amazing things inside an ambulance
  • See modern and old ambulances
  • Have a go at bandaging at a come and try
  • See a CPR Lab
  • Match the response to the injury activity
  • CPR demonstrations for 5 minutes, every half hour from 9.45am

Cranes are cool and you can see one

  • Try on 3D glasses and be transported to the upgraded look of the new Oaklands Railway Station
  • Check out a display about the Oaklands Crossing project

Hallett Cove Lion’s Sleigh

Kids can sit in the legendary Hallett Cove Lion’s Santa sleigh.

Customer Car and Hot Rods

Display of custom car and hot rods.

Brighton Surf Lifesaving Club

See a vehicle and boat that are on hand to rush to the rescue.

Free Activities

Kidz Gigantic Day Out

Lego and Duplo construct and play area presented by Kidz Gigantic Day Out.

Jumping Castles

Four themed jumping castles will be set-up for children.


Kids can play palaeontologist as they search through a giant ball pit looking for pieces of a wooden dinosaur skeleton to put back together.

Touch-a-Truck photo booth

Have your photo taken in one of two Touch-a-Truck photobooth frames to remember the special day.

The Face of Marion

Have a snap taken by a roving photographer so it can be added to build a three dimensional, photographic artwork of the community.


A drug sniffer dog and handler will be there so you can find out about their important jobs.

Key times

9am - Vehicles ready and waiting and displays open

10am - Official opening by Mayor Kris Hanna

12 midday - Truck stop (event concludes)

To help children with autism enjoy the event, a sensory hour without vehicle noise will run from 9am to 10am.

Getting there and parking

A limited number of car parks are available on site at the Marion Sports and Community Club.

Parking is also available at the nearby Marion RSL, 31-39 Norfolk Road, Marion.

Catch the bus

Bus stops on Sturt Road close to the Marion Sports Club are:

  • Stop 29C (Sturt Rd, north and south side)
  • Stop 29D (Sturt Rd, north and south side)
  • Stop 32 (Diagonal Rd east and west side)

Park and Walk

  • 10 minutes from Westfield Marion
Food and drinks

Here are some of the groups that will be selling food and refreshments on site to help visitors keep the hunger pangs at bay:

  • Marion Football Club – BBQ
  • Marion Cricket Club –BBQ
  • Sturt Marion Thunder Soccer Club – BBQ
  • Canteen – snacks and more
  • Marion Sports and Social Club will have meals and light snacks available
  • Coffee van – Java Drive
  • Coffee van – Café A-Go-Go
